What is this scan for?

The abdominal and pelvic ultrasound scan is used to:

  • Investigate abdominal and pelvic pain, bloating, or discomfort.
  • Evaluate organs such as the liver, pancreas, kidneys, bladder, uterus, and ovaries.
  • Detect abnormalities like cysts, stones, or inflammation.
  • Monitor known conditions or follow up on abnormal blood test results.

What to Expect

  • A 20–30 minute non-invasive procedure.
  • Gel is applied to the skin, and a small probe is moved over the abdomen and pelvis.
  • Real-time images are displayed and analyzed by the sonographer.
  • A same-day report with findings and recommendations will be provided.

Common Pathologies Assessed

  • Abdominal: Fatty liver, gallstones, kidney stones, cysts, or tumors.
  • Pelvic: Ovarian cysts, fibroids, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometrial pathology, etc.
  • Bladder: Retention or wall thickening.

Preparation

  • Abdominal Scan: Fast for 6 hours (no food or drink except water).
  • Pelvic Scan: Drink 1–2 pints of water 1 hour before the scan to ensure a full bladder.
