What is this scan for?
The abdominal and pelvic ultrasound scan is used to:
- Investigate abdominal and pelvic pain, bloating, or discomfort.
- Evaluate organs such as the liver, pancreas, kidneys, bladder, uterus, and ovaries.
- Detect abnormalities like cysts, stones, or inflammation.
- Monitor known conditions or follow up on abnormal blood test results.
What to Expect
- A 20–30 minute non-invasive procedure.
- Gel is applied to the skin, and a small probe is moved over the abdomen and pelvis.
- Real-time images are displayed and analyzed by the sonographer.
- A same-day report with findings and recommendations will be provided.
Common Pathologies Assessed
- Abdominal: Fatty liver, gallstones, kidney stones, cysts, or tumors.
- Pelvic: Ovarian cysts, fibroids, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometrial pathology, etc.
- Bladder: Retention or wall thickening.
Preparation
- Abdominal Scan: Fast for 6 hours (no food or drink except water).
- Pelvic Scan: Drink 1–2 pints of water 1 hour before the scan to ensure a full bladder.
