A combined assessment of the hand, wrist, tendons, nerves and superficial joints
This combined examination provides a broader high-resolution assessment than a focused hand-only or wrist-only study. It can assess finger joints, hand and wrist tendons, tendon sheaths, ganglion cysts, the median nerve and other superficial soft tissues.
It may be useful when symptoms extend across both the hand and wrist, where the exact source of pain is uncertain, or where more than one structure needs detailed assessment.
Dynamic ultrasound can be used to observe tendon movement and selected nerve behaviour in real time.

Common reasons for a combined hand & wrist scan
Hand and wrist pain
Pain affecting more than one area or symptoms that extend from the wrist into the hand or fingers.
Ganglion or soft-tissue lump
A palpable lump around the hand or wrist requiring ultrasound characterisation.
Carpal tunnel symptoms
Numbness, tingling or pain where structural assessment of the median nerve and surrounding tissues may be useful.

We review the distribution of pain, swelling, nerve symptoms, injury history and movement-related concerns.
Hand assessment
Relevant finger joints, tendons, tendon sheaths and palpable abnormalities are examined.
Wrist assessment
Relevant wrist tendons, median nerve, joint regions and superficial soft tissues are assessed, including dynamically where useful.
Results & report
The main findings are explained and a formal written report is provided the same day.
No special preparation is required

Please remove rings, watches, bracelets and tight sleeves before the examination.
Bring previous results
Bring relevant X-ray, MRI, ultrasound reports or clinic letters if available.
Expect movement
