What Is This Scan For?: The Liver Scan at UKSONO Healthcare is a targeted ultrasound examination designed to assess your liver health. This scan is ideal for individuals experiencing symptoms such as abdominal pain, jaundice, or unexplained fatigue, or for those at risk of liver-related conditions. It provides a focused evaluation of the liver to detect issues such as fatty liver, cysts, tumors, and other abnormalities that may affect liver function.
What Does This Scan Check?:
- Fatty Liver Disease: We assess the liver for signs of fatty liver (steatosis), a condition that can lead to liver damage if left untreated.
- Liver Cysts: The scan checks for benign cysts that can form within the liver.
- Tumors: We look for any signs of liver tumors, both benign and malignant.

What To Expect During the Scan: The Liver Scan typically lasts between 10-15 minutes. A specialist sonographer will conduct the scan transabdominally (through your abdomen). A small amount of gel will be applied to your abdomen to improve the clarity of the ultrasound images. You will be able to see your liver on the screen while the sonographer examines its size, texture, and overall health.
The procedure is non-invasive, comfortable, and painless, although you may feel mild pressure as the sonographer moves the ultrasound probe over your abdomen. Once the scan is complete, you will receive a detailed diagnostic report of your liver health.
Preparation Required: To ensure the most accurate results, fasting for a minimum of 6 hours prior to your Liver Scan is required. This helps to empty your stomach and intestines, improving the clarity of the images and allowing us to examine your liver without interference. Only water should be consumed during the fasting period.
