What is hip ultrasound?
A hip ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive scan used to assess pain, swelling, or mobility issues in the hip. It evaluates tendons, ligaments, muscles, bursae, and joint spaces, helping diagnose conditions such as bursitis, arthritis, tendon injuries, and joint effusion.
What to Expect:
- The scan takes 15–30 minutes.
- You will lie comfortably while a probe is moved over your hip with gel applied to the skin.
- The procedure is painless with no radiation involved.
Preparation:
- Wear loose-fitting clothing: This allows easy access to the hip area.
- No fasting or special preparation: You can eat and drink normally before the scan.
- Bring previous imaging or reports: These can help with comparison and accurate diagnosis.
Common Conditions Detected:
- Hip bursitis, tendon injuries, and arthritis.
- Labral tears, snapping hip syndrome, and joint effusion.
