Rheumatology Assessment

When inflammatory symptoms are present, we add a rheumatology-focused protocol. This evaluates joint synovitis and effusions, tendon sheath inflammation (tenosynovitis), and enthesitis. We can include Power Doppler to visualise active synovial vascularity where appropriate—supporting earlier detection and better treatment decisions.

Synovitis & effusions in foot and ankle joints
Tenosynovitis of peroneal, tibialis posterior, extensor tendons
Enthesitis at Achilles and plantar fascia insertions
Power Doppler assessment of active inflammation (when indicated)

What the Foot & Ankle Scan Checks

Tendons & Sheaths

Achilles, peroneals, tibialis posterior/anterior, EDL/EDH—assessing tendinopathy, partial tears, subluxation and tenosynovitis.

Ligaments

ATFL, CFL, AITFL, deltoid components—sprain grading and dynamic stability testing.

Plantar & Heel

Plantar fascia thickness and tears, bursae, plantar fibromatosis differentials.

Nerves (Morton’s Region)

Intermetatarsal space for Morton’s neuroma and dynamic compression evaluation.

Joints & Bursae

Effusions, synovitis, dorsal midfoot ganglia; Doppler where appropriate.

Guidance for Care

Findings support rehab pathways and referrals where needed.
