FAQs
Straight answers — designed to help you book confidently.
Which scan should I book for my stage? +
Early Pregnancy (6–10 weeks), Dating (11–14 weeks), Anatomy/Anomaly (18–22 weeks), Growth & Wellbeing (24–40 weeks), 4D & Wellbeing (24–34 weeks), or Reassurance (any stage).
Do private scans replace NHS maternity care? +
No. Private scans complement NHS care. Please continue all NHS antenatal appointments and screening scans.
Can I get a same-day appointment? +
Often yes (subject to availability). If you need urgent clinical assessment due to symptoms, NHS urgent pathways remain the correct route.
Do I receive a report? +
Yes — a same-day report is delivered via Medifile, with images and short clips where obtainable.
What does “where obtainable” mean for clips/4D images? +
Quality depends on fetal position, gestation, maternal factors and fluid. Diagnostic views remain the priority.
Can I have a transvaginal scan? +
In early pregnancy, transvaginal ultrasound can be offered if clinically helpful and only with your consent.
Can you confirm a heartbeat at 6 weeks? +
Sometimes. Very early pregnancies may not show a heartbeat yet. We document what is visible and advise whether a repeat scan is useful.
What if my dates are uncertain? +
Book an Early Pregnancy or Dating scan depending on your estimated stage. Add your best LMP/EDD estimate in booking notes.
When is the best time for a 4D scan? +
Typically 24–34 weeks. Facial views can still be limited by fetal position — we aim for the best achievable images.
Can you guarantee I’ll get perfect 4D face images? +
No clinic can guarantee this. We try best, but fetal position and other factors can limit facial views.
Can you tell the gender? +
From around 16 weeks, if views are clear and reliable. We do not guess if the view is limited.
Do I need a full bladder? +
It depends on gestation and the scan type. If you’re unsure, arrive normally hydrated. We’ll guide you during the appointment.
Can I bring my partner/family? +
Usually yes, but it can depend on room size and clinic policy. Keep it small so the scan remains calm and clinical.
What if I’m worried about reduced fetal movements? +
Contact NHS maternity triage immediately. Do not wait for a private scan.
What symptoms mean I should seek urgent NHS care? +
Heavy bleeding, severe pain, shoulder-tip pain, dizziness/fainting, feeling very unwell, or urgent concerns — contact NHS urgent services.
Can ultrasound detect every condition? +
No. Ultrasound has recognised limitations. We document what was seen and what could not be confirmed.
What’s included in a Growth & Wellbeing scan? +
Biometry measurements for growth estimate, wellbeing observations, placenta/fluid overview, and Doppler where clinically indicated.
How accurate are growth estimates? +
Estimated fetal weight has a recognised margin of error. We interpret results in context and explain what they mean.
Do you scan twins? +
Yes — twin appointments are tailored to gestation with documentation for each baby and clear limitations explained.
How do I book? +

4D & Fetal Wellbeing Scan (£100)
This appointment combines a gestation-appropriate wellbeing review with 4D imaging. The scan is performed by a clinical specialist sonographer and focuses on clear documentation, explanation of findings, and safe signposting if anything needs further assessment.
Who this scan is for
- People who want a wellbeing check in the later second or third trimester and would also like 4D images.
- Most suitable between 24 and 34 weeks, when facial views are more commonly achievable (but still dependent on fetal position).
What we may look at (depending on gestation and views)
- Fetal heartbeat and observed movements during the appointment.
- Brief fetal anatomy assessment appropriate to gestation, within the limits of the scan.
- Fetal position (lie/presentation) and an overview of placental position.
- Amniotic fluid overview appropriate to gestation.
4D imaging
- We attempt 4D imaging after the clinical portion of the scan.
- Quality depends mainly on fetal position, gestation, maternal tissue, and fluid volume.
- If the face is not well seen, we will be honest about the limitations and focus on the best achievable views.
What you receive (digital-only)
- Same-day report delivered securely via Medifile.
- 2D images from the scan.
- Short video clips where obtainable/recorded.
- For this scan: high-quality 4D images and a short 4D clip where obtainable.
Early Pregnancy (Viability) Scan (£90)
An early pregnancy scan is a focused ultrasound assessment in the first trimester. It is commonly used to confirm a pregnancy in the uterus (where possible), assess for expected markers of viability, and estimate gestation.
Who this scan is for
- If you have a positive pregnancy test and want confirmation of pregnancy location and early development.
- If you have uncertain dates and want an early estimate of gestation.

What you receive
- Same-day digital report and 2D images via Medifile.
- Short clips where obtainable/recorded.
Detailed Anatomy / Anomaly Scan (£190)
A structured, detailed anatomical assessment performed in the mid-pregnancy window. This is delivered in line with recognised screening scope and documentation (FASP-aligned approach), and complements NHS screening rather than replacing it.
When it is usually done
- Typically between 18 and 22 weeks.
What we may assess (as views allow)
- Head/brain views, facial profile where obtainable, and spine views.
- Heart and chest views appropriate to screening (dependent on fetal position and image quality).
