From focused reassurance to comprehensive screening.
Choose a standalone ultrasound or a broader health-check pathway combining multiple ultrasound regions with blood tests and clinician review where included.
If you have a new breast lump and are aged 40 or over, national symptomatic breast pathways commonly use mammography as part of specialist triple assessment. Please contact your GP where urgent breast referral is appropriate.
Where a transvaginal scan would improve pelvic assessment, it is optional, explained beforehand and performed only with your explicit consent.
Severe sudden pain, heavy bleeding, fainting, chest pain, acute shortness of breath or suspected stroke symptoms require the appropriate NHS urgent or emergency pathway rather than routine private screening.
What Our Patients Say
Women’s health ultrasound FAQs.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can self-refer for most UKSONO ultrasound scans and health checks. Your report can be sent to your GP or specialist if you give consent.
Which scan should I choose for pelvic pain, bloating or lower abdominal discomfort?
A pelvic scan may suit symptoms centred on the lower pelvis. If symptoms overlap with the abdomen or urinary tract, a combined Abdomen & Pelvis or Abdomen, Pelvis & Urinary Tract scan may provide broader assessment.
What is the difference between a pelvic scan and an abdomen & pelvis scan?
A pelvic ultrasound focuses on the uterus, endometrium, ovaries and adnexal regions. An Abdomen & Pelvis scan additionally assesses major abdominal organs such as the liver, gallbladder, kidneys, pancreas, spleen and abdominal aorta where visible.
What is the difference between a pelvic scan and a fertility health check?
A pelvic scan is an imaging examination. Fertility health checks combine a fertility-focused pelvic ultrasound with selected blood tests such as AMH or hormonal markers depending on the chosen package.
Can I book breast ultrasound directly?
Yes. UKSONO offers private breast and axilla ultrasound. Some symptoms, particularly a new breast lump in patients aged 40 or over, may still be better managed through an NHS symptomatic breast pathway that can include mammography and specialist assessment.
Can I combine several ultrasound scans in one appointment?
Yes. UKSONO offers combined Abdomen & Pelvis, Abdomen & Urinary Tract, Abdomen, Pelvis & Urinary Tract, Full Body Ultrasound and broader wellbeing packages.
What is included in the Women’s Full Body Ultrasound?
The female Full Body Ultrasound includes assessment of the neck and thyroid, carotid arteries, abdominal organs, kidneys and urinary tract, bladder and female pelvic organs. Exact inclusions are confirmed on the dedicated service page.
What is the difference between Full Body Ultrasound and Women’s Wellbeing Check?
Full Body Ultrasound is imaging-focused. The Women’s Wellbeing Check combines multi-region ultrasound with a broad blood-test panel and online GP review. Premium options add wider ultrasound coverage.
Can ultrasound assess thyroid lumps, lymph nodes and soft-tissue lumps?
Yes. UKSONO offers dedicated Neck & Thyroid, Lymph Node and Lump & Bump ultrasound services, as well as groin and hernia scans.
Which vascular scans are available for women?
UKSONO offers Carotid Duplex, DVT ultrasound for the leg or arm, Venous Insufficiency / Varicose Vein assessment and Abdominal Aorta (AAA) ultrasound.
Can I book an MSK ultrasound for shoulder or joint pain?
Yes. UKSONO provides musculoskeletal ultrasound for the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, thigh/hamstring, knee, calf, ankle, foot and Achilles regions.
Will I receive my report the same day?
Yes. Ultrasound findings are normally explained and the written report is issued on the same day. Reports are sent by email, and an optional mobile-app report pathway may also be available. With your consent, the report can be sent to your GP.
Can the report be sent directly to my GP?
Yes. If you provide consent and the correct GP details, UKSONO can share your ultrasound report with your GP or other relevant clinician.
Is a transvaginal pelvic scan compulsory?
No. Where a transvaginal scan may improve pelvic assessment, it is explained beforehand and performed only with your explicit consent.
Is ultrasound safe?
Diagnostic ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves and does not use ionising radiation.
Where can I attend for a women’s health scan?
UKSONO Healthcare provides private ultrasound and health checks in Tunbridge Wells, Orpington and Canary Wharf, with service availability varying by scan and location.
